Standard Oil Changes will last you 3,000 miles or 3 months - whichever comes first. Think of oil like milk, just because you have it doesn't mean its any good. Oil is designed for several things, 1 is obviously to lubricate things inside your engine, but the other main design is to collect particles and deliver them to your filter to keep these particles from causing your engine harm. By neglecting your oil changes, you are fundamentally deteriorating the lifespan of your engine.
NOTE: Remember, joining our customer loyalty program will get you $5 off every Synthetic oil change!
Generally a standard oil change will cost you between $30-$50. Most shops have 3 levels of oil: Standard Oil, Synthetic Blended Oil, and Full Synthetic Oil. At Neighborhood Mechanic our standard oil is Synthetic Blended Oil, and we don't upcharge for this!

Transmissions should have a fluid with Filter change approximatelyt every 70,000 miles. Every vehicle is different, and with some vehicles the filter/fluid is not servicable. Please contact us to see wwhat options you have with your vehicle.
NOTE: Changing old fluid with new fluid can have unforseen problems as new fluid is much thinner than fluid that has a lot of miles of buildup within it. If you are already having transmission issues, a fluid change could make your problems worse.
Vehicles that have All Wheel Drive or 4 Wheel Drive have something called a Transfer case. This case takes a special fluid and should be changed out once a year. This is the main component that gives power to all 4 wheels on your vehicle, neglecting it can cause severe damage.
This service is generally very quick and in most cases not very expensive.
Some vehicles have 1 or 2 Differentials. This is the mechanical structure that transfers power from your transmission out to your wheels. There are very precise gearing inside these that need an constant upkeep in the lubricating fluid to keep from overheating. Neglecting this service will absolutely cause a degrade in lifespan of the differential. This service should be done approximately every 30,000 miles.
The cost for this service varies from vehicle to vehicle. Some vehicles are simple and just a drain and refill, while other need to remove the entire differential from the vehicle to service. Please contact us to find out what options you have for your vehicle.
Vehicle brake systems use a special fluid that is subject to massive amounts of pressure and abuse. Brake fluid degrades over time causing condensation, this condensation will cause internal rust in your ABS module, your brake lines and your calipers. All of which are needed for your brakes to function properly. By changing your brake fluid, you are preventing condensation buildup and creating the best possible outcome to keep your brake parts from rusting out and leaking or outright failing.
Most brake fluid flushes are straight forward and generally fairly cheap, however if rust is already a factor on your vehicle, this time and expense can drastically increase.
Brake fluid flushes should be performed approximately every 3 years. Please contact us to find out what options you have for your vehicle.
A vehicles cooling system is critical for several reasons. The colling system is the main component in keeping your engine cool enough to not overheat, it is also the same system that gives the driver heat from the vents. If the cooling system gets compromised from debris, sludge, or loss of coolant, you will likely see a result of little to no heat in the cab of the vehicle and the engine will over heat. If an engine over heats, it is likely major repairs will be needed.
Sediments within the colling system will buildup overtime clogging a part called a Heater Core. If the heater core gets too much buildup in it, you will loose heat inside the cab. To avoid these problems, doing a coolant flush every other year will keep it running at its full potential.
Cooling System Flushes will generally run around the $150 range and varies drastically from vehicle to vehicle. Please contact us to find out what options you have for your vehicle.
Power steering fluid is subject to massive pressures and will brake down faster than most vehicle fluids. This fluid is the backbone of your vehicle's tires moving as you move the steering wheel. Flushing this system is critical to maintaining your steering system over time. Generally this service is not very expensive and does not take very long. With every vehicle having a different design, this service varies from vehicle to vehicle. Please contact us to find out what options you have for your vehicle.
If your tire is leaking air, we can fix it. From re-sealing the bead, replacing the valve stem or plugging a puncture. Keep in mind, there are areas of a tire that are not patchable. If you have a puncture in the sidewall or close to the edge of your tire, we will be unable to patch it.
Replacing a leaking valve stem is quick, easy and inexpensive. However, if your vehicle has a tire pressure monitor system, replacing the stem can get more expensive depending on the type of sensor inside the stem.
Tire Pressure Monitor system, otherwise known as TPMS. The TPMS system light indicates there is a fault in the tire pressure system.. Typically this just means one or more of your tires is low on pressure. In some cases a sensor or a module may fail. We can repair any failed parts including the sensors and reprogram your system to get the light off your dash.
Rotating a vehicles tires is a necessary service for vehicles. Failure to maintain this service can result in abnormal tire wear, and premature failure and loss of any warranty you may have on your tires. Abnormal wear on tires can cause significantly more road noise and cause a "floating" feeling while driving.
Note: Remember when getting your tires rotated, reprogramming your tire pressure sensors is needed. Not all shops perform this extra step. Failing to do so can result in your vehicle telling you the wrong tire is low on pressure. At Neighborhood Mechanic, we perform the reprogramming procedure every time.
Ready for some new tires? We can order you just about any tire you want and can help you choose the best tires for your vehicle.
Did you acquire your own set of used tires? Don't worry, we can mount & balance them for you to get a smooth driving experience. However, there is a 4 digit code on the side of every tire, the last 2 number of that code indicate the year it was manufactured.
We cannot install any tires that are older than 5 years old or have any sever damage including weather cracking on them.
From simple to complex services, if your vehicle is in need of a service, we will repair it. We do all maintenance here.
The quick answer is: Yes we do work on diesel vehicles.
From diagnosing an odd noise, reprogramming computers and running down electric faults we do it all.
Diagnosing failed systems on a vehicle is a lost art in this industry. Most shops will just throw parts at a car until the problem is fixed costing you extra money. Properly diagnosing a problem from the start will save you time and money.
Diagnostics can be very simple sometimes, and very complex at other times. Please schedule an appointment to get your vehicle properly diagnosed to ensure it is repaired correctly the 1st time.
Exhaust work is generally tough. Exhaust pipes go from hot to cold constantly which creates hardened metal. And Minnesota weather and salted roads create and additional challenge with rust. Both of these aspects create exhaust failures faster than other areas of the country. When repairing exhaust failures keep in mind, nothing ever comes apart easily.
We can repair your exhaust for you, however we do not do any custom exhaust pipe bending here.
Brake systems are a vital part of every vehicle, and one of the more overlooked parts. Failed brake systems can cause life threatening situations for you and the people around you on the road. Keeping your brake system in top notch condition is a main priority of ours.
This is why we do not do what is normally called a "Pad Slap" Pad Slaps will get you by in the short term, but just replacing the brake pads can drastically cut down on your braking power and the life of your brakes.
When doing a brake job here, we do not cut any corners. We will be replacing your brake pads & rotors. We will grease and align all of your braking parts, bleed the entire system of any air, test the working condition of your calipers and calibrate the ABS system. This gives your brakes the best possible chance to work as intended.

Air Conditioning is a creature comfort in our vehicles. When it fails, we panic. Over time, an A/C system begins to lose its charge and become contaminated. Loosing your air conditioning can be very simple and just need a recharge of the freon it needs to cool the air. This service generally takes about 30-45 minutes and is fairly easy to do.
However, loosing air conditioning can also be a sign that something has failed in the air conditioning system.
We can recharge your AC System if it is the R-134A. Vehicles newer than 2016 can sometimes have a R-1234YF system, if your vehicle has this system, we cannot recharge your AC at this time. Please contact us to find out which system you have.
R-1234YF is a new air conditioning system that started to be implemented in vehicles in 2016. Not all newer vehicles have this system, please contact us to find out if your vehicle does.
The R-1234YF system requires different fluid and equipment to service and is generally much more expensive that the R-134A system.
At this time we do not provide service for this system.
